The Panca Datu or pancadatu is the foundation of belief symbolized by the five metal elements as narrated in the sacred footsteps of Sang Maharsi Markandeya and his followers to seek safety while traversing the land of Bali and developing the complex of Pura Besakih.
The Panca Datu in the Tri Mandala Pura Besakih explains that Pura Basukihan / Puseh Jagat as the central Panca Datu in the Besakih region, the abode of Ida Bhatara Hyang Basuki, the manifestation of the power of Bhatara Wisnu which is mentioned in Widhi Tatwa: “Wisnu in the form of the protector of the world to uphold and establish the truth of dharma.”
In philosophical studies, according to the Batu Ngadeg Narayana pesraman as discussed in the article Lingga Narayana, Panca Datu is the five basic religious principles of Hinduism, namely Panca Sradha, so by planting Panca Datu in the new temple means that the temple land has been transformed into “gold” full of the radiance of the holiness of Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, the Supreme God, the fifth type of metal Panca Datu is explained in symbols as follows:
– Gold symbolizes faith in Brahman.
– Bronze symbolizes faith in Atman.
– Iron symbolizes faith in karmaphala.
– Steel symbolizes faith in reincarnation.
– Mirah gem symbolizes faith in moksa as the ultimate goal.
These metal elements are used in the construction of new temples, all of these metal elements are placed at the base padmasana and other shrines.
