ONGKARA SYMBOL
Ongkara/Omkara is a Sacred Symbol in Hinduism. In the Upanishads, ongkara or omkara is referred to as Niyasa, meaning a tool to help concentrate our focus towards Hyang Widhi, and the worshipper receives the pure vibration of Hyang Widhi. Niyasa or other means such as offerings, shrines, altars, etc., are used as sacred symbols to be placed in proper locations as they are purified.
Improper treatment of these sacred symbols may be due to ignorance (awidya) or intentional disrespect (rajasika). Why is one of the niyasa in the form of Ongkara/Omkara? This symbol is what the great Rishis who received revelations from Hyang Widhi saw in their enlightenment, and it has been passed down to us for generations.
